Grover (the one looking away) is a 6 month old kitten that was live-trapped by a PAWS volunteer. He was originally going to be trapped, neutered, and returned to the colony he was living with. (T.N.R.) Before the vet did the neuter it was discovered he was missing his back left foot - the believed an animal had bitten it off.
They called the volunteer that brought him asking if they wanted to go through with the neuter and figured out something to do with him, or just euthanize him. Well, obviously we couldn't just allow this innocent kitten to die because of something like that! It was then that Grover came into a PAWS foster home so he could work on becoming a tame kitten.
It didn't take long for him to start trusting humans and even rolling over for belly rubs. He even started to learn how to play. But as he grew in confidence, he started to put pressure on the leg with the missing foot. The vets said it would eventually cause the bone to ulcerate through the skin. His foster made the decision to have his leg amputated.
That was on May 8th. He's getting along just fine as a 3-legged kitten! Grover is still building up his strength in his right back leg and gets tired out easy, but he's alive and very friendly! After his stitches are out he'll be ready for his new home!

Kammie has been through a lot in her short life. She was living her life as a stray until someone felt bad for her and took her in. But they couldn't keep her and called on PAWS to help. One of our fosters took her and that's where it started.
The foster discovered that Kammie had horrible ringworm. For people who don't know, ringworm is extremely contagious - so Kammie's foster had to be covered head to toe when doing her treatment. And the whole time all Kammie wanted was to be loved.
Three months later and the sweet girl's ringworm has cleared up... but now she's faced with another challenge. Kammie has a fungal infection in her lungs that can only be cured with a very potent medicine. And while the medication will kill the fungus is has a change to damage her liver and kidneys meaning she'd have to be euthanized. :[
Her chest x-rays come back better and better each time. But it's starting to get to the point she can no longer be on the medication to prevent it from damaging her liver or kidneys. Her final one is next week and hopefully the improvements that need to be seen will be there..
Kammie has come such a long ways. And the whole time she's been the sweetest cat. All she wants is to be loved and petted. Recently Kammie has become Grover's new "girlfriend". They are being fostered by the same person - and she's decided if Kammie makes it she wants them to go together.

In many shelters and even some rescues, these cats and cats like them would have been euthanized. I consider myself so lucky to be apart of a group that helps these "broken" animals. And hopefully these two will be able to go on to their new home together.
